SIG Sauer: Born in Europe, Improved in America

Initially, Schweizerische Waggon Fabrik (“Swiss Wagon Factory”) was founded in 1853, and changed its name to Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG; “Swiss Industrial Company”). Later, in 1976 SIG bought JP Sauer & Sohn, a maker of shotguns and hunting rifles. Thereafter, the new company, SIG Sauer, grew to making handguns and their line began with the P220.

Later, SIG entered the striker-fired market in 2014 with the P320. Later, the US military released a call for a new handgun to replace the Beretta M9, and in 2017 the P320 won the XM17 Modular Handgun System competition to provide guns to the US military. A complement to the pistol is the SIG Sauer P320 M17 magazine.
