Until the recent XM17 Modular Handgun System competition over several years, the rigorous testing under OHWS program set a standard, and the USP9 passed with flying colors. Subsequently, H&K developed the P8 as a modified version of the USP9. The P8 has been the sidearm of the modern German army (Bundeswehr) since 1994.
