SIG Sauer: Born in Europe, Improved in America

Initially, SIG Sauer began as the company Schweizerische Waggon Fabrik (“Swiss Wagon Factory”) that was founded in 1853, and which changed its name to Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG; “Swiss Industrial Company”). Later, in 1976 SIG bought the company JP Sauer & Sohn, which was a maker of shotguns and hunting rifles. Thereafter, the new company, SIG Sauer, grew to making handguns and their line began with the P220. Later, SIG’s entry in the striker-fired market was the P320 that came in 2014. Later, the US military released a call for a new handgun to replace the Beretta M9 model, and in 2017 the P320 won the United States Army’s XM17 Modular Handgun System competition to provide sidearms to the US military. Also, one-third of law enforcement in the United States used SIG firearms. Undeniably, this great history of firearms manufacturing set the stage for the SIG Sauer P365X pistol & ROMEOZero optic.
